Production Welder/Fitter

Primary Function: 

Plan, lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair structural, vessel, equipment, and sheet metal parts, equipment, and products. Installs machinery and equipment in industrial establishment. Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial production and processing system. Work as member of crew to raise, place, and unite girders, columns, and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Capable of performing fit up and welding on plate and pipe projects 3/16 to 1.5”
• Capable of performing fit up and welding on sheet metal .0625 to ¼”.
• Proficient in welding the following
  • GMAW (Short Circuit, Spray and Pulsed Spray)
  • FCAW
  • GTAW
• Basic understanding of weld quality control, welding code standards and specifications, symbols
• Understanding of grinding, polishing, and clean up after welding
• Basic understanding of weld inspection and non-destructive examination
• Fabricate, repair, and maintain miscellaneous customer items
• Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or two to six years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be able to read blueprints, weld symbols, and dimensional criteria

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

• Must be able to pass weld tests in accordance with AWS, ASME and ISO codes
  • If currently certified and recorded in the AWS database, current qualifications may be acceptable based on qualification ranges.

Additional Skills

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a dynamic environment – must have flexibility and an ability to follow through without excess supervision

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The job may require climbing ladders and/or stairs. The employee will often lift heavy pieces of metal, work with arms overhead, torso twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, often for extended periods; the employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move weight above 50 pounds. 10 hours is the standard scheduled day. Specific vision abilities required by this job include strong visual acuity (with or without correction), color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, machinery, and material handling equipment.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud moderate.
